The dog days of summer approach—and with them, an exhibition that honors the dogs immortalized in art. Among the show’s 50 works, dating from 1915 to the present day, are Pablo Picasso’s sketch of his dachshund, Lump; Robert Mapplethorpe’s black-and-white photograph of a floppy-eared spaniel; and Alex Katz’s Pop-inflected painting of a beloved canine. Ranging across mediums, from sculpture to prints, “Dog Days of Summer” is an homage to the furry companions who proved to be irresistible subjects.
