Eddie Martinez to Release Print Iteration of His "Scaffold" Painting

At 47, Eddie Martinez continues to reach new heights. In addition to a suite of large-scale exhibitions at BLUM and Galerie Max Hetzler, the American artist was recently appointed by the small micro-state of San Marino to represent its pavilion at the ongoing Venice Biennale. His large gestural paintings have reached sums in the six figures and have been represented by a number of institutions across the world, including the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, Reina Sofia in Madrid and the Long Museum in Shanghai.

In collaboration with Avant Arte, Martinez will soon release a new time-limited print entitled Scaffold. Characteristic of his practice, Martinez has distorted the loose image of a vase of flowers - originally a painting, that the artist has imbued with the same level of dynamism in its printed form. "Scaffold is full of power and life, in keeping with the artist's rhythmic, dance-like approach to making art," said Avant Arte in a statement. "The strong colors and sharp contrast of his original painting have been maintained in the edition with a precisely calibrated base print, three bespoke silkscreen layers and a matte varnish seal."
