James Rielly: Late and Early

Timothy Taylor Gallery are proud to present 'Late and Early', a new project by British painter James Rielly. This split-site installation of new drawings on paper will be shown concurrently and in collaboration with the Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh.
 
'Late and Early' marks an important departure for James Rielly, who is most well-known for his paintings in oil on either large single canvases, or groups of several small canvases scattered across the wall's surface.  The drawings depict the same quietly intense memories of childhood. However, the thinly veiled washes of paint on thick handmade paper create a mood of tactility and sensitivity very different to the bolder and more remote works on canvas.
 
Rielly has been involved in numerous exhibitions in Europe and North America including solo shows at the CASA Salamanca, Spain (2002); the Fond Regional d’Art Contemporain Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand, France (2002); 'Casual Influences', organised by the Oriel Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno, touring throughout Wales (2000); 'Sensible Ways', Musee des Beaux-Arts de Nantes (1997).
 
James Rielly will have a major solo exhibition of new paintings at Timothy Taylor Gallery, 24 Dering St, in 2004. Other upcoming exhibitions include 'Outlook', Athens in Autumn 2003 curated by Christos Joachimedes; and solo exhibitions at Rex Irwin Fine Art in Sydney, Australia and Distrito 4 in Madrid, Spain.
 
In May Timothy Taylor Gallery will expand into a new 4500 sq. ft. space at 24 Dering Street previously occupied by the Anthony d'Offay gallery. Designed by architect Eric Parry, the new space will allow major exhibitions by Timothy Taylor's growing list of internationally acclaimed artists.
